Dr. Megan Walters’ family likes to joke that her choice to become an Orthopaedic Surgeon was just another way for her to join ‘the family business.’ Her father, mother, and brother all work in the construction industry, and Dr. Walters agreed there’s something to that idea. After all, her work helps to “re-build” the active daily lives of her patients by helping them regain their mobility, and her ‘work site’ is feet and ankles where she makes the repairs.
A Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in the Foot and Ankle, Dr. Walters assists patients with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders or injuries affecting these areas.
Originally from Decatur, IL, Dr. Walters earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Miami (Magna Cum Laude with Honors), then returned to her home state to acquire her doctorate and attend the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. That was followed by a Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Orthopaedics at the University of Washington and next, her Orthopaedic Surgery Board Certification.
Her personal history as a gymnast and ballet dancer piqued her interest in this specialty, while the variety and complexity of injuries keeps her engaged in assisting her patients as she continues to research improved methods of offering relief. She works with those in sports, entertainment, recreational fitness enthusiasts, people who have acquired painful conditions over time, and everyday injuries that can occur to anyone.
In her down time, Dr. Walters and her long-time boyfriend, Tidus, both like to travel and explore. An avid outdoor enthusiast, she adds, “While I love the outdoors and we spend a lot of time exploring the west to enjoy all its beauty and recreational opportunities, we also love the urban lifestyle that Las Vegas offers.”
